Asian and Pacific Islander FACES Community Planning Training

In collaboration with the Asian Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF) in San Francisco, The Capacity Building and Technical Assistance Department of Asian Pacific AIDS Intervention Team is conducting the 2nd West Coast Regional Asian and Pacific Islander F.A.C.E.S. (Fostering Advocacy and Community Empowerment Skills) Community Planning Training. In our efforts to service the Asian and Pacific Islander communities of the Pacific Northwest, the training will be held on Thursday September 15, and Friday Sept 16, 2005 in Seattle, Washington. This is a free training. Travel and accommodations will be provided to confirmed participants.

The focus and goal of the F.A.C.E.S. (Fostering Advocacy and Empowerment Skills) training is:

· To increase Asian & Pacific Islander participation in HIV prevention community planning by:
  • Introducing potential Community Planning Group (CPG) members to the fundamentals of the CPG process
  • Building the capacity of new CPG members to participate fully and effectively in the CPG process
During this training, participants will also learn tools on how to raise community awareness and identify barriers for accessing appropriate HIV Prevention and Direct Care Services in their respective communities.

This interactive training is designed for Asian and Pacific Islanders who are new members of HIV CPG's (1 year or less) or who are interested becoming a new member of a community planning group in their region.

Enclosed is a participant application form for the API FACES Community Planning training. Due to funding and logistical constraints, participation is highly limited. Applications must be received no later than August 5, 2005. Selected participants will be notified by August 10, 2005. Submitting this application does not guarantee participation of training.
